Aston Villa sign Norwich City midfielder Emiliano Buendia for a club-record £33 million
Buendia has agreed to join Aston Villa on a club-record £33 million fee.
Buendia was the Canaries’ player of the season, as they cruised to the Championship crown and promotion to the Premier League. Villa has acted quickly to stave off Arsenal‘s potential interest.
Personal terms have been negotiated, and a medical has already been completed in Argentina, bringing the total cost of the agreement to £38 million if add-ons are included.
The whole package – which includes a 10% sell-on clause – dwarfs the £28 million fee paid by Brentford for Ollie Watkins last summer, which grew to £32 million with add-ons.
In his three years with Norwich, Buendia has earned promotion twice and made 36 Premier League games before the Canaries were relegated in 2019-20.
There was a sell-on clause in the agreement that saw Norwich purchase him from Getafe for £1.5 million in 2018, but it was bought out by the Carrow Road club.
