Real has confirmed that Modric’s contract has been renewed
Luka Modric expressed his delight and pride when Real Madrid announced that the Croatian senior midfielder will return for another season.
Real Madrid has taken its first official steps towards 2021-22 with the announcement that Luka Modric has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club for at least another season.
The veteran midfielder’s contract was supposed to expire on June 30, but with this extension until June 2022, the Croatian will be able to spend his 36th birthday as a Madridista.
His extension is appropriate compensation for Luca’s hard work this season, and the two parties have been in agreement for nearly three months, as this newspaper previously reported and as Madrid president Florentino Pérez recently acknowledged in a radio program El Larguero.
This season, the Croatian has been a crucial role for coach Zinedine Zidane, as seen by his 57 total appearances for Los Blancos, not including those for Croatia, which is fairly outstanding for a player of his age.
Following the news on Tuesday afternoon, Modric tweeted, “Happy and pleased to continue wearing the shirt of the finest team in the world.”
Following a one-week break, he will reunite with his Croatian teammates in preparation for Euro 2021, where they will attempt to repeat their 2018 World Cup final-winning performance.
At Real Madrid, Modric is still in his prime fitness level.
Modric has remained committed to the Madrid cause, and the club has returned that commitment. Modric joined the Bernabéu from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 for €35 million.
He has stated on multiple occasions that he still considers himself in his physical prime, due in part to his training with a kinesiology guru in Zagreb, Croatia.
Last week, Zidane commented, “Luka is great.” Since his goal in the 3-1 triumph at the Camp Nou Clásico in October, the French coach has heaped praise on the tenacious center midfielder, making him a consistent starter.
