Mike Maignan looks set for AC Milan transfer
AC Milan is ready to finalize the transfer of Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan this summer for a bargain price of £13 million, according to Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Maignan, 25, was prepared for an interesting summer, but it appears that he has opted to leave Lille only days after helping them win the Ligue 1 championship. AC Milan has moved ahead of the competition in luring him to Serie A.
The France international’s contract with Lille was due to expire, but it looks he will now join Milan for £13 million. Given championship success — and 23 clean sheets this season – it’s a steal.
As per Di Marzio, Mike has been brought in to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is still without an agreement with Milan. The French keeper has arrived in Milan and will undergo a medical examination on Tuesday.
This season, Maignan has been outstanding. While the Lille goalkeeper is set to be second fiddle to Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris during the Euro 2020 competition this summer, Maignan will ultimately take Lloris’ place.
However, he should have done it at the club level as well. According to GFFN, L’Equipe reported in March that Tottenham was interested in Maignan, but that a sum of more than £20 million was expected. Spurs will be disappointed now that AC Milan has spent only £13 million for the future Nr. 1 in the national team of France.
