Manchester City defender Ruben Dias has been named Premier League Player of the Year
Ruben Dias, a Portuguese defender, had an outstanding debut season at Manchester City in England, winning yet another individual trophy to add to his considerable collection.
Ruben Dias’ first season in England finished with even more well-deserved individual accolades, as the FWA Footballer of the Year was also crowned Premier League Player of the Year for the 2020/21 season.
The center defender’s efforts have already gone a long way to justifying Manchester City’s £62 million transfer cost to Portuguese giants Benfica last summer, as his contributions helped City reclaim the Premier League championship from Liverpool.
Dias developed an amazing relationship with England international John Stones, and he has demonstrated leadership capabilities far above his years, as he was a consistent presence at the heart of the City’s defense.
He won the prize over a number of other great Premier League players, including City teammate Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester United prodigy Bruno Fernandes, and the league’s top scorer and creator, Harry Kane.
