AS ROMA | Matias Viña will join Serie A
Last month, Viña agreed to personal terms, but the deal was postponed due to disputes about the payment plan.
Matias Viña, the left-back from Palmeiras, has finally joined Roma for £11.7m with bonuses according to football-italia.net.
Roma has confirmed that they would pay €13 million plus incentives and will owe Palmeiras a share of any future transfer fee, according to a statement released this afternoon.
He agreed to a deal that will last through June 2026.
Viña stated, “I am honoured to be sought by such a famous team as Roma.”
“I’ve wanted to play in Europe since I was a kid, and to be able to accomplish that goal while wearing a Roma shirt makes me extremely pleased.
“I can’t wait to meet the coach and my new teammates, and then sprint out onto the field in front of our supporters.”
The left back has 16 caps for Uruguay and, with Palmeiras he won the Copa Libertadores in 2020.
He was brought in to fill in for Leonardo Spinazzola, who is recovering from an Achilles tendon tear.
On the official Roma website, Roma director Tiago Pinto stated, “He is a player with a winning mindset and enormous ability to grow even more.”
Viña will be wearing the No. 5 shirt.
